Break Point

By Lauren Marino

Netflix recently put out a documentary called “Break Point,” highlighting certain up and coming players in the tennis world. When it came out, there were only five episodes that focused on one of the largest  tennis tournaments, the Australian Open. However, there will be a part two of the series released in June focusing on Wimbledon, another massive tournament that all the major players attend. Each episode focused on one significant player on the rise to fame and showed how they prepare for a tournament, what their mentality is when facing a huge opponent. It shows parts of their matches like where they really struggled and where they succeeded. It was really interesting to see how each player emphasized that mentality can change the game in seconds. Tennis is all about momentum and it can change in an instant. Watching clips  from the matches, it was interesting to see how certain players could be playing at the top of their game and then all of a sudden spiral down. Tennis doesn’t get much recognition for how difficult the game is and how interesting it is to watch. It was incredible to watch Netflix highlighting the athletes that are young and are going to follow in the footsteps of the world famous tennis players like Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. The series was fantastic and I can’t wait to see what Netflix produces when focusing on the next big tournament: Wimbledon.
