A growing great garbage patch, forests shrinking in size, an impending shortage of glass — it has never been more important to recycle. Our community should strive to limit our impact on the planet, especially in large institutions who waste great amounts of materials. Schools in particular use large quantities of paper and plastic from schoolwork and school lunches.
But, you’ll be surprised to find out that although there is a clear necessity, Westmont does not recycle any waste; everything goes back to the landfill as trash. Despite making an effort to beautify recycling bins and encourage students to recycle with candy at lunch, since all bins have a black plastic bag all efforts to save the planet are futile. It’s sad to say that we have no recycling at Westmont!
