To My Sister Down the Hall

By Faith Gonia

To my sister down the hall

I must tell mom the truth

You stole my favorite marker

The blue one that draws smooth

To my sister down the hall

Your music is too loud

And you took my brand new shirt

You knew you weren’t allowed

To my sister down the hall

With you I always shout

We are together far too much

I wish you’d just move out.

To my sister up the coast

Yes, the weather here is warm

That is, compared to snow storms

Just outside your dorm

To my sister up the coast

We mailed some things from home

A polaroid of the family cat

So you won’t feel too alone

To my sister up the coast

The hall is quiet now

No longer full of screams and tunes

Yet I am sad somehow

For all those years you were down the hall

I never even considered

A hall without a sister

A hall completely withered
