Ballin’ With the Boys

The Westmont boys basketball team remains ranked first in league! With a record of 5-1, they are in great shape to make playoffs. Kicking off the first league game against the age-old rival, Prospect, the game was intense, the crowd was electric, and the gym was loud. Westmont squeezed out the win by one point in the last minute of the game. Even some alumni of the Westmont boys basketball team were there to support. Tyler Yang, who graduated in 2019, commented after the game, “Always great to beat Prospect. You love to see it.” Another alum of the basketball team, Todayoshi Pirkl, added, “Thanks to the hard work of the players today they pulled another win.”  Furthermore, when asked about his favorite memory of the season so far, senior Alija Gacanovic commented, “So far my favorite memory has definitely been our home game vs Prospect, the whole crowd was into the game, and it was a fight until the last minute.”

To continue the team’s momentum, in the next game, a home game against Andrew Hill, Luke Mathiesen dunked, shaking the whole gym with the crowd’s reaction. After being asked what the key to success was in that game, Luke reflects, “We just followed the game plan and took care of business.” The next home game, against Live Oak, senior and captain, Sebastian Chegini, knocked down numerous threes and helped lead the team to another victory. Matthew Schoos, another key player on the court, mentions that he is, “looking forward to a league championship and playing in CCS.” Overall, this tight-knit team works well together, competes in every game, and looks forward to making a run in playoffs.

Come out and support the boys basketball team at the next few home games. With a win at these games, your Westmont warriors have a great chance at making CCS playoffs and competing throughout them.
