Queens Who Like to Watch

By Raven Carthon

Former winners of the iconic reality TV show, RuPaul’s Drag Race queens Trixie Mattel and Katya Zamolodchikova have taken the entertainment business by storm. After receiving their crowns on Drag Race, they quickly gained recognition in the entertainment business due to their hilarious sense of humor, and unique looks.

Although both are very successful in their careers, Trixie Mattel has especially soured. Mattel has been on YouTube since she was a teenager in high school, obtaining thousands of followers through her makeup tutorials and barbie collection videos. Through these barbies collection videos, Trixie established her unique look with big blonde wigs and huge contoured-out cheeks. One of the most entertaining things about Mattel’s videos is her advanced sense of humor, stemming from various obscure pop culture references and even light-hearted mockery of other drag queens in the community. Additionally, Trixie recently put her creative expertise to the test, hosting her own show, Trixies Motel on the Discovery Channel. The show tracks the progress of her creating a motel and adding her own flair to the sight.

Katya proves as the more bizarre queen out of the two, but this only adds to her flair. She often styles her outfits based on popular spooky classics, and whatever her favorite cult classics are. One of my personal favorites has to be her Labyrinth-themed outfit in which she wore on the pairs show, UNHhhh where they talk about their favorite topics. Katya’s staple is consistently saying weird things to get a reaction out of Trixie, which only enhances the comical nature of their friendship.

Moreover, one of the most standout aspects of both of the queen’s careers has to be their YouTube series sponsored by Netflix called Queens Who Like to Watch. In this show, they roast the most popular show or movie on Netflix at the time. Their hilarious honesty is what appeals most to their audience, as they fully disregard the fact that they are sponsored by Netflix, and still say their own opinions on what they are viewing. One of their most well-done videos has amassed over 6.8 million views on YouTube, only further solidifying their fame and queen status.

If you are looking for an easy watch, a quick laugh, or even to learn more about the life of famous drag queens, I highly recommend checking out Trixie and Katya’s content.
