Portland Thorns 3-Peat

In the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Championship Match, the Portland Thorns defeated Kansas City Current on Saturday, October 29 with a win of 2-0. The Thorns came out strong as Sophia Smith scored a goal in the first minute of the match. Portland Thorns striker, and U.S. National Team Player, Sophia Smith, was named the NWSL most valuable player on Thursday. Throughout the first half, there was a lot of back-and-forth possession with opportunities for both teams. The second half began with the same vigor as the first, and the Thorns scored their second goal through an own goal. Thorns player, Yazmeen Ryan’s ball deflected off a Kansas City defender and into the goal. The Thorns then controlled the remainder of the half, winning their third NWSL championship.
