Legendary Lindsay

By Olivia Pocat

Superstar athlete Lindsay Lee is a four year Varsity Girls Tennis and three year Varsity Badminton player. Lindsay’s stellar record as a singles player includes CCS qualifiers and the BVALs singles and doubles tournament for all four years of her tennis career. Despite several setbacks, including muscle pains in her calf, and a recurring elbow injury, Lindsay continues to passionately play both sports. In 2021, Lindsay was unable to play badminton, but despite her absence, still secured a spot at mixed doubles with her partner Sean Bae this season. Fellow tennis and badminton player Lavanika Sharma admires Lindsay’s hard work and attitude, exclaiming “Lindsay is such a dedicated player and she always finds a way to lift everyone’s spirits. She is a powerful athlete and an amazing person!”

Lindsay Lee reflects on her athletic career at Westmont as she responds to these enticing questions.

What’s your favorite thing about badminton?

The maneuverability of the birdie. I like that the pace of the rally constantly changes between every shot and that deception (making it hard for the opponent to read a shot) is a huge part of the game.

What’s your favorite thing about tennis?

The variety of playing styles. Tennis players have pretty different techniques, strengths, and strategies so it’s always a challenge to adjust to each one.

What are your goals for after high school?

For my career goals, I want to become a clinical psychologist to treat people with mental/behavioral disorders. As for tennis and badminton, I want to keep them as hobbies to enjoy with others.

Who’s your favorite athlete?

My favorite athlete is Petra Kvitova. In 2016, she was stabbed by an intruder which caused severe damage to her left hand but she came back a few months later as world no.5. I admire her courage and resolve in coming back to the game and also her focus on the court.
