Maude Latour on Tour!

By Alex Gryciuk & Avalon Kelly

For three months, we counted down the days until we could see our favorite popstar in person.  Finally, on March 14, that day had come.  Maude Latour was performing in San Francisco!

Upon arriving at the venue, the Rickshaw Stop, nearly two hours early, we spotted a line of teenage girls sprawling down the entire sidewalk.  Sporting bright pink tops and fun jeans, we joined the ever-growing crowd of neon-clad teenagers outside the club.  Our excitement reached an all time high as we waited outside.  We had been waiting for this concert for almost three months, and it was finally here—the chance to see the artist that we’d been listening to on repeat!  Once inside, we headed straight for the merch line to purchase some cute, colorful merch.  Complete with bright pictures, a disco ball, and an upstairs lounge, the venue was the perfect place for a small concert.  We ordered two Shirley Temple’s and snapped some pictures as we waited for the show to start.

After countless minutes of restless anticipation, the opener, Jensen McRae, played some acoustic music from her new album ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?.  Her music was soft and pleasant,  but both of us thought that McRae’s heartbroken melodies had quite a different vibe than Maude Latour’s pop hits.

The room buzzed with excitement as the seconds counted down before Latour’s appearance; when she came on stage 20 minutes later, we were mesmerized. She played songs from her EP’s—Starstruck and Strangers Forever—along with unreleased singles “Lola” and “Trees.”  Needless to say, we rocked out.  Along with the rest of the crowd, we jumped, danced, and screamed along to each song.  Some of our favorite songs she performed included “Walk Backwards,” “Superfruit,” and “Headphones.”

Our voices gone, ears ringing, and heads pounding, we walked out from the venue with grins stretching from ear to ear.  Latour’s concert was a night to remember for all her Bay Area fans, with incredible music, a perfect venue, and a fun crowd.  We can’t wait to see her perform again!
