Do I dare ask the question: which Dorito is better, red or blue? Do you prefer Cool Ranch’s herbal blend of onion, garlic, tomato, and spice over the perfect blend of cheesiness found in Nacho Cheese Doritos? I must admit, both Doritos are delicious and unique in their own ways, but between red and blue there is only one true winner. In order to find out which Dorito is the best, let’s dive into their backgrounds and run some polls to see which the people prefer.
To start off, we have the Blue Dorito, also known as a Cool Ranch Dorito. I have typically found that this Dorito is more popular with the older crowd, such as high school and college kids. Though Doritos were sold nationwide by 1966, sales only really picked up upon the intro of Cool Ranch in 1986, when the new flavor “blew the collective minds of junk food addicts around the world.” A funny fact about Blue Doritos is that ranch is not commonly known around the world, so Blue Doritos outside of the United States are referred to as “Cool American” Doritos or “Cool Original” Doritos (in the UK).
Although some people may call the Nacho Cheese Dorito basic, this delicious mixture of crunch and cheese delights people of all ages, especially those in elementary and middle school. The Red Dorito was invented and released in 1972, and it quickly became the most popular Dorito flavor worldwide. Nacho Cheese Doritos are even popular among adults because they remind people of their childhood.
Now it’s time for the big question: which Dorito is better? Winning with a majority of votes, the Red Dorito is the best. 70% of my friends say that it is by far the best Dorito of all time. It wasn’t just my friends that felt this way though, as an article on Thrillist ranked Nacho Cheese as the number one Dorito while Cool Ranch was ranked in 13th place. Although Cool Ranch has a unique flavor, it is not as delicious as the classic Nacho Cheese, which will never go out of style.
