Beating up bad guys, using advanced technology beyond our time, and being overall defenders of the planet, superheroes have been a large part of pop culture for the past few decades. It got us thinking, could any of the superheroes of the present inspire Westmont students to become superheroes of the future? Through asking rigorous questions to random students, we set out to find the truth; was the next Tony Stark walking through the halls of Westmont High School? Or is superhero trivia Westmont’s student’s kryptonite? Let’s find out!
Our first brave soul who hesitantly said yes after some persuasive asking (begging), Madeleine Kwong, was asked the question: “What superhero is also known as the Man of Steel?” I’m going to preface this by saying that Madeleine tried her hardest and she doesn’t want to be embarrassed by her lack of superhero knowledge, so let’s give her a round of applause. She did say “Iron Man”, which is unfortunately the incorrect answer, but we still give you points for trying.
Next we asked Russian genius Yury Shirokov what Superman’s only weakness was. (Not) to our surprise, he answered with the elemental answer “Krypton,” but quickly changed his answer to Kryptonite. With the brains of this Russian MMA fighter, you might expect to see Yury fighting off villains in the streets of Campbell.
Furthermore, we asked dice-making James Harper one of our harder questions. “What kind of doctor is Dr. Strange?” James responded with, “PhD?” Honestly James, I would’ve said the same thing. However, Dr. Strange is in fact a neurosurgeon!
Next up we have The Shield’s very own, Eric Vallen, who the current Spiderman is. With the current buzz about Andrew Garfield (check out the page featuring him!), we are pleasantly surprised that Eric answered correctly. The current Spiderman is in fact, Tom Holland.
One of The Shield’s editors, Alessandra Kelly, was asked our trick question! “How many movies are in The Dark Knight Trilogy?” A trilogy can only have three movies in it, hence, being a “trick” question. Alessandra answered correctly, and you might see her arabesque-ing to the rescue when duty calls.
Shortly after, Tim Z, showed off his superhero prowess by answering exactly how many people are in the incredible family. Remembering both parents and the three kids, (don’t forget Jack Jack!) Tim was proudly able to answer that there were indeed 5 Incredibles.
Lastly, we made our way to Jonathan Sherry, who had the honor of answering our last question. Sherry was able to correctly tell us who the protector of Gotham City was. With no moment of hesitation, he told us proudly and thoughtfully, Batman.
