Roxy Music, U2, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and Coldplay–If you’ve enjoyed any of these bands and musicians, you’ve most likely heard the works of Brian Eno. While being a musician, composer, producer, and artist, Brian Eno describes himself as a non-musician. Described by many as one of the most influential and innovative musicians, he has formed a giant portfolio of the years and has established him as one of the most sought after producers in music. Meeting David Bowie in 1976, they formed a bond that produced several albums that exceeded their expectations and expanded their careers beyond recognition.
Here are some of the albums they worked on together:
- Low (1977)
- Heroes (1977)
- Lodger (1979)
The start of his music career was highlighted by him co-founding the group Roxy Music, a glam rock band, as the synthesizer player. Finding minimal success amid tensions with the lead Brian Ferry, he left in 1973. Throughout the 1970s he found success working on albums by Talking Heads, Ultravox and Devo as well as making his own solo albums. His early work defined him as the father of ambient, pioneering a genre and inspiring thousands of artists to make their own music.
Here are some Brian Eno song favorites:
- Deep Blue Day (1983)
- An Ending (Ascent) (1983)
- Another Green World (1975)
- Against The Sky w/ Harold Budd (1984)
- as if your eyes were partly closed as if you honed the swirl within them and offered me the world (2011)
In 2019, Brain Eno was rightfully put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Oh, and he also made the Windows 95 startup sound.
