By Avalon Kelly and Julia Kemp
Junior Olivia Pocat, born in Virginia in 2005, moved to France when she was only 6 months old. Growing up in France, Olivia enjoyed all things French; from visiting Disneyland Paris to lounging in her Parisian home, the young French resident became immersed in French culture. After her eighth birthday, Olivia moved to America for the first time since infancy. Though she visited the US often during her French residency, the country was still very foreign to the young Parisian. Although she has lived in the US since she was eight years old, France still has a special place in Olivia’s heart. Below is an exclusive interview with the French Westmont student herself.
What is your favorite thing about France?
I love the…um…how like my family is there and stuff. It’s just a different atmosphere, and also there’s like cool places to visit, like the Eiffel Tower.
Who is your favorite French person?
Uh…my grandma
Do you like croissants?
No! I hate chocolate croissants, but I will tolerate normal butter croissants. I like almond croissants the best. I give croissants like a 4/10.
Oui Oui Baguette?
Yeah! I love baguettes, they’re so good.
Have you met the rat from Ratatouille?
I met a lot of rats. I might have met him among the other rats.
Say something in French.

Do you consider yourself to be a fashionista?
No. Maybe sometimes.

What would you wear to Paris fashion week?
Um…I would probably wear like a dress from a store. If I could get a designer to make one, I would probably do that.
France?
Is that like a question?
How often do you go to France?
I used to live there but now I don’t go that much because it’s a long trip. My favorite place in France is St. Paul de Vence!
Will you take us with you to France?
Yeah, we can go on our senior trip or something.
