Winter Guard Preview

By Alex Gryciuk

As Westmont’s Marching Band and Color Guard end their artistic reign on Fall sports, an upcoming Winter Sports season brings another creative, interesting sport: Winter Guard. Similar to Color Guard, Winter Guard spins flags, rifles, and sabers in creative ways; they certainly perform breathtaking shows for audiences. However, Winter Guard does have some differences. Instead of acting as visuals for the Marching Band’s performance, Winter Guard becomes the show by dancing and displaying complex repertoire with special equipment.

This year, Elizabeth Petersen, Winter Guards’ coach, will lead the team through competition, dance routines, and flag twirling magic! Most enthusiastic, Junior Kaylin Rongong is “excited to perform more and focus more on [her] technique” during the upcoming season. Junior Katie Moon looks forward to meeting “new people” and recruits. Make sure to watch and Support Winter Guard at upcoming tournaments and a performance at the BOTC Rally this upcoming March! Go Winter Guard!

All beginners and experienced individuals are encouraged to join the Winter Guard. If interested in joining, email Ms. Mandler at cmandler@cuhsd.org, or message @westmonthsguard on Instagram with any questions or interest!
