James Charles’ downfall almost seemed inevitable. Being the face of one of the most toxic, gossip filled corners of the internet, it was about time for Charles to be truly cancelled. Several minors accused the beauty guru of sexual misconduct, with many of them uploading screenshots of alleged conversations. After a classic notes app apology, Charles was practically forced to address further allegations in a video titled “Holding Myself Accountable.” The video is almost embarrassing. However, damage control didn’t work the way it has in the past. Weeks after the video was posted, Morphe — the company that has stayed by the YouTuber’s side throughout his career — announced they would be “cutting ties” with the problematic collaborator. This was a huge move; the Morphe x James Charles palette is one of their best selling products.
Charles then posted a statement, claiming that he’d reached out with the company, and the two had mutually agreed to “wind down sales” of their collaboration. However, it was then released that YouTube would be demonetizing James Charles, meaning that he is not able to make any money from the site. Safe to say, James Charles has been canceled.
