Leg Warmers

By Rachell Carbajal

With winter just being around the corner, people are bringing in their new pieces, and timeless fashion pieces coming back. For example, layering, puffer jackets, knee-high boots, etc. But one fashion piece that I personally think is so underappreciated, is leg warmers. Originating from the early 1980s, leg warmers’ main use were for dancers (aerobic and ballet dancers) to keep their lower legs warm. Leg warmers rapidly hit the market and every girl and their mom had them in their closet, dancer or not.

At first leg warmers were only sold in black, but once the market started selling out, every color you could imagine was on the market. Leg warmers were worn on anything you could think of. From leggings to jeans, not only are leg warmers easy to wear, but they look great on (almost) everything.

Unfortunately, this time of leg warmers would soon come to an end , and die down in the middle of the 1980s. But thankfully leg warmers soon returned to the fashion market in the 20th century, because Anime and Japanese shows were seen wearing leg warmers on the characters. Leg warmers are truly one of my favorite fashion pieces, from being high-knee to your ankles, it adds such a refreshing but adorable pop for your outfit! Leg warmers are definitely one of my favorite winter pieces, they’re not only fashionable but they keep you warm and cozy in the winter!
