What started as a simple contest to make the most life-like haunted photo turned into a near-fatal situation between friends. The story of Slenderman started when “Something Awful” created an internet image where the main focus was a group of children playing on a playground and hidden in the trees interacting with some children. The image contained a quote under it saying that, “…Notable for being taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what is referred to as “The Slender Man”. Deformities cited as film defects by officials. Fire at the library occurred one week later. Actual photograph confiscated as evidence.” Slenderman was often described as being a freakishly tall, milk-white figure with no facial features. There have been different versions of Slenderman throughout his entire existence as he is referred to as a creepypasta character. Although there are no actual grounds stating that Slenderman has ever existed, there have been multiple crime reports that have been perpetrated by teens with the young adults saying they were driven by the evil force Slenderman. The most famous of these cases is a stabbing and attempted murder conducted by two teens in the city of  Waukesha, Wisconsin. It was discovered that two 12-year-old girls brought their friend into the woods and stabbed her nineteen times before running away. The only reason the police were alerted was because the victim crawled to a nearby biking trail and was found by passing bikers. The two girls were going to be tried as adults for their crimes but both were able to plead insanity causing one girl to be sentenced to 40 years in a mental health asylum while the other was sentenced to 25 years. The victim made a full recovery after being stabbed mere millimeters away from her heart. Slenderman may not be real in any form but the influence, both negative and positive, he gave will never be forgotten for a long time to come.
