Chrysalism

By Avalon Kelly

I sit on my bed and take a sip of red tea

Outside, the wind howls and shakes the trees

Tip tap, tip tap

Says the rain, as it falls onto the roof from the oak’s leaves

I drink my tea and read my book

Covered in blankets in my safe nook

Pit pat, pit pat

Says the rain, as from the window, I watch the gray outlook

Inside is safety, warmth, stillness, peace

While outside the storm rages, as far as the eye can see

Tip tap, tip tap

Says the rain, as it pelts the house protecting me
